Application for spouse visa

Post by shafikhan » Sun Feb 26, 2012 4:04 pm

Can someone please help me with this question?

I am Afghan and recently got married in Afghanistan. I am intending to apply for a spouse visa so that i can reside with my wife in the UK. I am currently working as a liaison officer for UK based agency. I am classed as self-employed and my job is in Afghanistan. I work three months in Afghanistan and i recieve 1 month leave off work which i spend in the UK. In a year i will be working 9 months in Afghanistan for British Army and 3 months leave off work which i intend to spend in the UK.

I am paid ten thousand pounds a month which are paid into my UK based account. I have started the work few months ago and the contract is for one year.

As a british citizen what are my legal requirments to apply for a Spouse Visa? Do i have to pay tax? Am i classed as non UK resident because i spend too much time abroad in a year.

Am i eligible to apply for a spouse visa? My wife lives in Afghanistan.

Any help is appreciated

As a British citizen, a spouse visa is not required. Just apply for a British passport.

My wife is Afghan national and she lives in Afghanistan. I would like to sponser my wife so that she can live with me in UK. I hold British passport but the problem is that i work in Afghanistan 9 months in a year and the work is for british army and my agency is UK based.

Will the immigration officer raise the point that i spend too much time in Afghanistan so there is no point my wife applying for a spouse visa?

Do i have to pay tax on my income as i only spend less than 100 days in the UK?

Will the Visa officer refuse my wife because i have not paid tax on my income. In my pay slips the tax is not deducted because i am classed as self-employed?

I am not registed with Inland revenue? Is this going to cause a problem?
