Passport expiry and Tier 1 renewal

Post by jonbca » Mon Feb 27, 2012 4:39 pm

My current T1G visa expires on 4 Aug 2012, so I'm planning to send away for renewal around 1 July. My Canadian passport expires in January 2013, so when I send away my application I'll have less than 6 months remaining on my passport.

Is this going to cause any issues with renewal? I understand that in general it's not possible to travel on a passport with less than 6 months validity.

For T1 extension your passport needs to be valid at time of application, so you should be fine.

Based on current processing times your application should get decided in 10-12 weeks for a postal application, far less for PEO application.

I dont think that there is a travel restriction if six months or less is remaining on your passport. It all depends on when you plan to get back to your home country - that should be before passport expiry

In order to be safe, i would suggest to go for Passport renewal. especially with homeoffice it will be better to avoid even the smallest mistake.

i had a similar situation. still thought to renew the passport and then went for visa renewal.
