ILR granted yesterday : Need help for benefits

Post by mafaquem » Sat Mar 03, 2012 9:57 am

Hi John

Appreciate all the details might be on the forum, but just need your personal advise please to make sure there won't be any issues in regards to my naturalization application

Me and my wife got ILR last week. I was on 5 years Tier 1 ( general ) and my wife was my dependant. We have 3 years old son and he has also given ILR

Q1. Can I claim benefts for my child and if yes which benefit I can claim
Q2. My wife doesn't work at all, I earn around 32 K so is there any other benefit I can claim for her
Q3. If i can claim benefits , under what name I should claim ( my name or joint name)

I will be very grateful to you if you reply

regards

You can claim child benefit.

how to claim child benefit either you or your wife can claim this.

You can't claim benefits 'for your wife' it is for you wife to claim any benefits for which she is entitled, however unless she has made NI contributions and is actively seeking work, or is unable to work due to sickness, she is unlikely to be able to claim any income based out of work benefits because your household income is too high.

You may be entitled to a small amount of Child Tax Credit - you would need to make a joint claim with your wife
