Getting married only 2 weeks before visa application

Post by Gompho » Mon Mar 05, 2012 5:36 pm

Here in Canada we have something called common law partners.

We file our tax returns together and for all intensive purposes we are married in the province in which we reside even though no formal ceremony has taken place.

We are however getting "married" officially on March 16.

Shortly after the ceremony I am applying for a spousal visa for my wife.

Do you think that this will be looked down upon by the people processing the application?

Things I plan on providing with the application are:

- marriage certificate (when I get it on march 16th)
- previous lease agreements with both our names (showing we cohabited)
- our child's birth certificate
- previous income tax statements showing we filed together

No problem You can apply the day after the wedding if you want to. Don't forget you'll need to submit evidence of sufficient finances to be self-supporting in the UK + adequate accommodation on arrival.
