most spouse sponsors that I know of represent the appellant, (the overseas spouse) at appeal.
frequently this is due to the cost of hiring a solicitor, and that they can answer any questions that may arise.
its not like court and being before a judge, it is more informal than that, and the tribunal are used to dealing with the spouses, its not as intimidating as it first sounds.
make sure you have covered the points of the original refusal, with room to spare if possible, and have a look at what the actual reasons for the grounds for refusal were, and try and be objective about it, say to yourself, OK i thought we had covered that, obviously not, and then set about covering those points so that they can't be questioned that they will now be self evident of meeting the requirements.
