ILR + Passport validity < 6 mnths + Mandatory trip to Ind

Post by nmehta » Sat Mar 10, 2012 11:36 pm

Hello Mods,

I currently have ILR visa and need to make a short 10 day mandatory trip to India in couple of days. The issue is that my passport is valid only for four months. Will this cause an issue while returning back to UK.

Ideally I would have renewed my passport before my trip but it came all of sudden and I am running short of time.

I have tried to find if there is any minimum passport validity criteria on UKBA site but couldnt find. Will Indian immigration authority or UK immigration authority cause any issues on my return to UK.

Any help/thoughts will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Call the India High Comission Office and explain your scenario and hope they will advise you accordingly.

In my opinion, I do not see any issue during immigration given it's a very short trip.

Hope this helps..

No issue from the UK immigration side. You can even enter on the last day of your passport. You might get some difficulties from the airline when flying back to the UK although you are within the rules as you have ILR but as they are used to see visitor visa more than ILR, they might try to impose the visitors visa rules on you (which is wrong).

Thanks guys, kind of relieved now...

So that suggests, they might question but once the situation is explained and given the Indefinite visa, airline/Indian immigration authority will have to let me onboard eventually ... isn't it? In other words, because I am well within rules, they cannot stop me, right?

Just want to make sure not risking my UK work commitments.

HCI in London can renew your passport on the same day for a fee of about £100. This is the best option if you need the passport urgently
