Citizenship wrt india rules

Post by sanch_c » Mon Mar 12, 2012 12:42 pm

This questions requires a bit of clarity on both Indian and UK rules - would appreciate people with an idea of both to give some gyaan

I entered UK close to 6 years ago - working for an indian company. Last year i was eligible for PR at the end of March and duly received it. I shall be eligible for citizenship at the end of this month.

However, there is a very high chance that in April I will be asked to move back to India as part of a promotion within the company.

I understand that the naturalization process takes a few months but it is possible to use OCS and retain my passport. So, that brings me to my questions

Can i apply for my citizenship in the last week of March - move to india on my indian passport on work- and then when it actually comes through take my necessary oaths, etc in the UK embassy in India

Can i give up my indian citizenship and apply for OCI while being in India so that i can continue my job in India without any problems

HAs anyone faced such issues in the past and how can it be handled

One big concern is that you will not need meet the Future intentions requirement.

You can't transfer the ceremony abroad in your case. See

If a s.6(1) applicant states that they will be abroad for more than 6 months, CCST will refer the case to the appropriate Senior Caseworker to check whether the applicant satisfies the future intentions requirement

Hi;
I am also in similar situation as sanch_c.

I have PR and I have applied for Naturalization. After I get my approval I am planning to take the oath in UK itself. But I am wondering if it is possible to apply for british passport from india.?

I also another question, after getting Naturalization certificate, what happens to PR.? Would that be cancelled?

Would appreciate any help.

Regards
Nagi
