Career Break while on Work Permit

Hi all, I've a query about my friend. He lived in U.K on Student Visa and then switchd to employer sponsered workpermit (3yrs visa). But during his first year of Workpermit visa he went back to home country to get married and never came back. now after 1.5 years he wants to come back he contaced with his previous employer and employer is agree to the extent that he will give him a letter with a date in past, confirming that his employee is going on a career break and will come back after 1.5 years.

As his visa was for 3 years hence not expired , but employer was failed to extend his sponsership with home office as he was required 'probabley'.

In this situation what are the options / chances for my friend to come back to U.K

Seniors are very much requested to give their expert openion regarding the situation stated above.

He really needs to reapply for Tier 2 sponsorship. This is not a break/ his employment was terminated a long time ago.
