Citizenship, nationality checking service

Post by senthil_1977 » Fri Mar 30, 2012 10:32 am

Dear all,
My wife and myself are due for applying for naturalisation as british citizens in first week of May.
I have few queries
1. The major advantage of using Nationalisty checking service is that we get to hold on to our passports. Is that correct?
2. My wife's Indian passport is to expire on 30th May. We do not have plans to go abroad in the next 9 months. Will it be alright for us to not extend the Indian passport, which has the ILR stamping and wait for naturalisation certificate and then apply for British passport.
3. One of the questions in AN form asks for the first date of entry in UK and port of entry. However the AN guide asks for the first date of entry with a view to stay long term and port of entry? We both arrived UK with a visitor visa, which was converted to Permit free training visa later on within UK. Which is the entry date for us - entry into UK with visitor visa or date permit free training visa for granted. Also what should be port of entry for us?

Many thanks for your time and effort

Yes, they make photocopies of all your documents, excluding the application form and hand the originals including your passport back to you.

I believe that as long as you don't intend to travel, then not renewing is fine, naturalisation doesn't factor in an expired passport. HOWEVER, this is only if you don't envisage any emergencies which will require the use of your wife's passport such as traveling abroad on an urgent matter. if it is not too expensive, my suggestion is to renew it for your peace of mind.

the date is when you arrived with the visitors visa. the port of entry is whichever place you entered the uk....whether by heathrow, gatwick etc. just be sure you are within the number of days required...i.e...that you satisfy the residential requirements.....good luck!
