Time to receive acknowledgement

Wondered how long from sending off an EEA3 application any form of acknowledgement? I know the time to process it is up to 6 months?

A friends sent their docs about 4 weeks ago and hasnt heard anything and I cannot remember how long it took for us, though for BC it took 6 weeks for the HO to acknowledge.

Your acknowledgement for EEA3 will be the issued permanent residence certificate.
