Maintenance (funds)
Can you apply?

This page explains how you can meet the maintenance (funds) requirement when you apply to enter or remain in the UK as the husband, wife or civil partner of a British citizen or a person settled here.

You and/or your settled partner must demonstrate that you and/or they can cover your living expenses without recourse to public funds in the UK for:

* 27 months, if you are applying from outside the UK; or
* 2 years, if you are already in the UK and applying to switch from a different immigration category.

what is meant by the above - 27 months, if you are applying from outside the UK; or

does it mean i need to show 27 months worth of savings ?

no - if you are in employment and your earn enough to meet the maintenance requirements you do not need to show the money in savings. You have rather a lot of threads and it would be far easier if you kept your questions together.

Is your question about the length of leave that is granted or about maintenance?

Sorry for posting on different threads - the reason i do htis is because this is a different topic and when people have similar doubts, they can look at the subject line

my question is - just read this on the UKBA website and wondering waht it means - does it mean i need to show i can support them for 27 months - if yes means how do i do it - is it by means of salary or savings - obviosuly dont thnk any would have enough savings for the next 27 months - so i think if you are in permanent job then its is accepted - is it?

It means:

If you have an ongoing cashflow from a regular source of income, this alone should be satisfactory and you don't need to have any other money or savings. Otherwise if you are relying on savings alone (have no source of income) then you may be asked to show sufficient savings that will cover you living expense for the full 27 months. That would be something like 12,500 for a married couple.

sorry to be a party pooper but i was recently refused a visa for two reasons one of them were 281v.
while my husband (sponsor) has a permenant full time job, n after paying our bills & rents we are left with more then 500 pounds to spend each month. but the ECO completely ignored this fact and argued that my husband wont have left enough savings after paying a certain fee that we had to pay i.e the fee was 5800 n he had savings of 7000.

so really and truelly although there are rules and regulations but we are really at the mercy of ECO who can easily ignore facts and make decisions because they feel like making that decision.
