I have a very weird name situation on my BRP ever since I entered UK. Prior to immigrating I changed my first and middle name (Room Broom) to just my middle name (Broom) for convenience, since this was what I mostly used in everyday life. The rule in country that issued my passport is that any previous name is written alongside the present name in brackets for 10 years since change. So in it I have written Broom (Room Broom). Which in my country just means Broom (previously known as Room Broom)
To my surprise my first and all subsequent BRPs in the UK were issued with the name Broom Room Broom! Now that looks a bit ridiculous but it didn't bother me very much in everyday life so I let it be. Only now, after reading this forum, I finally fully understand that the UK treats the Room Broom in the brackets from my passport as my middle name

Now the problem is that I need to replace my passport in two years and the new passport is automatically going to only contain Broom as first name because more than 10 years have elapsed since the name change, so no more previous name in brackets.
So I would like to to get my first British passport ideally with just Y. How to do it while spending as little money and time as possible? I can replace my foreign passport at any point and the new passport will just contain Y.
Do I naturalise as Y X Y, as per the current BRP, then change my foreign passport to Y, then change the naturalisation certificate, then apply for British passport? Do I also need to do deed poll? Or do I just write to the HO explaining the situation then? How much is the cost of exchanging the naturalisation certificate? Or should I change my foreign passport prior to applying for naturalisation?
What a weird situation! Will appreciate your thoughts...
