Hi, everyone. Hope you are all doing alright, and maybe you can help me.
Having passed my "Life in the UK" test yesterday, I am now at the stage of filling out my application form AN, and maybe I am incredibly daft or the guide is deliberately vague, but I'm looking for some clarification.
Here's my (straightforward) situation: European Union citizen, first arrival in the UK on 15/10/2001, started working on 16/10/2001, and have been in employment ever since (with two short breaks between jobs of about 6 weeks each, in which I didn't leave the United Kingdom).
First question: Section 1.2 asks when I was given indefinite leave to remain, and advises EEA nationals to refer to page 5 of the guide. Page 5, in turn, says that EEA nationals gain automatic permanent resident status after exercising EEA free movement rights for 5 years and don't need to apply for IRL. So then... what do I put into 1.2? 15/10/2006? 16/10/2006? Nothing? Do I actually have permanent resident status or does changing the jobs "reset" the clock?
Secondly: Referees, referees, referees... sigh. So, my first referee is a close friend of mine, a watch repairer, proprietor and manager of his own watch repair shop; the second one is a senior associate at a medium sized investment bank in the City. Both are respectable people, but neither is in the strictest sense of the word a person of "professional standing", if I interpret the guidelines correctly...? Correct? Thing is, I honestly don't know anyone who would be a "professional" along the lines of doctor, priest, bank manager etc... (never been ill, atheist, and online banking... no run ins with the police, or social workers. my post office manager doesn't know me, etc...) Any advice?
Finally, in terms of supporting documents, I managed to dig out 4 of the last 6 years' P60s, but apparently I've mislaid the one for 2004/5 and (crucially) 2001/2 - the first year. Any idea if and where I could get replacement copies of those? Alternatively, I do still have all my payslips from the very beginning... are those an acceptable alternative? I also have something called a "coding notice" from the IRS from 12/2001 and a "statement of earnings" for the period of 10/01 to 06/02. Just the stupid P60s are missing...
Thank you so much for your help and advice.
