How to apply for a fiancee visa

Post by Jonlim » Sat Mar 09, 2019 2:43 pm

Hi everyone

I am a British national intending to apply for a fiancee visa for my Chinese fiancee.
I understand that the only way to apply is to do this online via https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/User/Home

The Visa4uk options are confusing and I need some help clarifying which visa sub type to select.

Am I right to select the options below for a fiancee?

- Reason for Visit - Settlement
- Visa Type - Settlement
- Visa Sub Type - ???????? [this is where I need help]

The only options listed available:
-unmarried partner
-wife
-child
-civil partnership
-family reunion
-former UK Armed Forces
-husband
-marriage
-parent
-post flight
-proposed civil partnership

There's nothing called fiancee/fiance. The few sensible options are below:

UKVI has advised me to select "unmarried partner" option
A qualified solicitor has advised me to select "marriage" option
What about "proposed civil partnership"? isn't this essentially the same as a proposed fiancee?

Does it matter which I choose as long as I pay the right fee of £1523? (depending on currency rate as at Mar19)
Our intention is to marry in UK and to continue living in the UK.

I would appreciate your comments if you have recently applied via this route.
Many thanks in advance :)

Since the none-application members Can't see the online form so exact answer may not be able to give you. But I guess fiancee visa isn't a settlement type and that's why may not shows under settlement section.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

Marriage
Just to clarify, wouldn't this be the "marriage visitor visa" (application cost £93)?
Because we're planning to settle in UK after getting married and the information from the home office website below states:

https://www.gov.uk/marriage-visa
You must apply for a Marriage Visitor visa if:
-you want to get married or register a civil partnership in the UK
-you want to give notice of a marriage or civil partnership in UK
-you’re not planning to stay or settle in the UK after your marriage or civil partnership
-you meet the other eligibility requirements

Anyone may register in visa4UK and apply on behalf of somebody else.
If a fiancee visa isn't a settlement visa type, then how do I apply for a fiancee to get married in UK and remain as a spouse?

I believe a fiancee visa is a type of settlement visa because:

https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa/y/china/marriage
If you want to live in the UK permanently, you must apply for a family of a settled person visa if your partner is any of the following:

-a British citizen
-settled in the UK
-someone with humanitarian protection, for example if they have refugee status

An application as a fiance is under the settlement route. Don't apply for the less expensive marriage visitor visa as this would require your wife to leave the UK after the wedding and this is only for those who don't intend to remain in the UK.. :!:

Incorrect.

A fiance visa is part of the Settlment visa category.

It is Settlment >> settlement >>> marriage for a fiance visa and valid for 6 months.

@jonlim, it is imperative you select the correct option as stated/highlight above, and as Casa has advised, otherwise you risk the visa being refused.

If by selecting marriage you get cheaper fee visa then its not fiancee visa rather it may be a marriage visitor visa. Be careful
