Can student switch within UK with valid leave

Hi , im asking this question on behalf of my friend
Currently my friend is on student visa and its valid till june 2016, now he is getting married in uk ,
His question is
can he switch his visa category within Uk
Or he has to go back home then apply for spouse visa?
I ll be really thankful if any one could answer plz

She has ILR , and both are working and
His fiance earning is over £18600 p/y.
Is there any other requirement they should look for

Evidence that the relationship is genuine and that they intend to live together, with proof of adequate accommodation.
