Unmarried partner visa for Germany - does it exist

Post by nicolea » Sun Jan 20, 2019 9:17 am

Hey

I realize this board is nearly 12 years old, so my chances of getting a response are slim - but what happened in the end?

Or does anyone have an answer to whether unmarried partners can enter Germany under Family Reunification visa?

Reason I ask: My partner and I have been together for many years, but are unmarried. We have a child, house, all assets are shared etc - i.e. we definitely have all the proof that we are in a committed, long term, partnership. He is German, I am not. Our child also has a German passport. Our child and I are also New Zealand citizens, and my partner is a NZ permanent resident.

Is there any possibility of coming to Germany under the Family Reunification visa if we are not married? Note, it also seems I can't get the visa on the basis of our child, as it seems the child needs to have no other relative with a German residency in order for this to happen.

Any advice or links is very appreciated!

Nicole

There is no unmarried partner visa.

Since you have a German child, you can apply as the parent of a German national. Where did you read that you couldn't? I know an Australian national who got his parent visa recently without any trouble.

Or you could get married.
