Spousal visa with dependent child staying in the US. Letter from parent.

Post by Zen Guru » Tue Jul 23, 2019 6:25 pm

In the process of applying for a spousal visa from the US to join my husband in England. My child from my previous marriage is staying in the US with their father to continue their education here so won't be joining us in the UK. I have their school records and class schedule for the 2019/2020 school year. Their father will be writing a letter stating that they will be remaining with him.

I need to know what this letter should include. Please advise? Thank you :-)

Your question isn't really clear. If the child is not applying for a visa, then why would any letter be required for UKVI.

I'm asking because per the uk.gov visa website, under information you must provide it states the following:

Children
You’ll need to give details of your children (and your partner’s children if you have one). You’ll be asked about all children, even if they’re not applying.

You’ll need to give details of:

their name
their nationality
their date of birth
their passport details
who the child normally lives with
any other people with parental responsibility for your child, for example your step children’s other parents
how you’re involved in their day to day life
arrangements you have to see the child - for example the courts have granted you access
the child’s extended family
any countries your child has visited or lived in

Have you started the online application? The questions are answered with a series of tick boxes and space to add further relevant information. I had to include my daughters birth certificate, even though she was not included in the application and is British from birth. It seems to be a one size fits all form, and asks for information that is not relevant.

Thank you for your response. No I haven't started the application yet. In the process of gathering our information together. Just trying to think ahead a bit. :-)

Mailing our supporting documents and my passport, biometrics etc.

Post by Zen Guru » Tue Jul 30, 2019 9:08 pm

My UK husband is mailing our supporting documents to Sheffield Uk once my visa application is submitted from the US. My question is: does my passport, biometrics etc. have to be included with the supporting documents or can they be mailed separately?

It appear that from 31.07.2019 the mailing/posting of documents to Sheffield stops and will have to use the scanning service.

Thank you for your reply Amazonian.

Can you tell me where you sourced your information from because I just checked the Gov.Uk website and found no indication that this was the new procedure. It still says to post them to Sheffield.

Zenith Guru,

Third party weblink removed by moderator

Also, quite a couple of people on this platform who received email from HO/immigrations that the posting to Sheffield is to stop by 31/07/19.
Check VFS/TLScontact website too.

Thank you. Now does this only apply to people applying from Asia? The xxxxxx website that you have provided a link to states this may not be the case for other countries.

I did not factor in the country you are making the application from. Kindly do search online to clarify the arrangement in place for the exact country you are applying from.

US applications haven't been sent to Sheffield since last September (September 2018).

Would a letter be needed from mother living with sponsor and I in sponsors home?

Post by Zen Guru » Tue Aug 06, 2019 11:01 pm

My husband (sponsor) and myself will be residing in his (owned) home. His mother resides with him and will be remaining with us when I join him. Does anyone know if we will need a letter from her stating that she lives there as well?*

*we've had the property inspection already

Thank you :-)

Thanks everyone for your answers. You've been really helpful. I have another question if anyone is able to answer:

My husband has been married twice before. Both times in the UK. For the Spousal visa application for me to join him in the UK, does he need to provide his divorce certificate (absolute) from both previous marriages or is only the most recent one required?

Many thanks.

I'd make sure to provide both as evidence that he is free to marry.

Ok Thank you.

Do all copies of documents need to be certified?
