Bill Sparks fears

Post by GoforUK » Tue Jun 02, 2009 2:23 am

I read the following link today morning and concerned about it , as it says if migrant unemployed even for a brief period, will be deported.Does it mean that we have to travel with a job in hand. Will it affect prospects of ppl planning to go to UK in near future?

Then what is the point in giving Tier 1 Visas. The purpose for Tier 1 holders is to come to UK and then look for a job, and it might take time to find one.

This is crazy if they are thinking about implementing something like this...

Didn't heard anything like this here in London. Not sure from where these papers got the news.

I sincerely do not know where this newspaper got its propaganda from! This kind of misinformation should not be tolerated please!

These are different things.
Govt. is indeed planning a bill to deport migrants but only if they are found to be involved in illegal activities, wihch is fair. For citizenship, govt. is raising bar from 5 years to 8 year (via Path to Citizenship proposed changes in 2010). But they are all in process at the moment.

Looks like Hindu paper has mixed the above two information with pinch of spice to cause stir. Hopeless...!!!

RE: 8 year Citizenship

If you read the draft it says that it can be accelerated to six years provided you do the community service. Still in debate.

If 8 years happens, we are better off signing off from UK and working in countries who respect migrants.

Gurkha? HSMP JR? what next? Tier 1 & 2?

How does this bill affect the ILR?

Sorry for being naive in this aspect but just wanted to get an understanding. I had a look at the draft version of the bill, but I couldn't find anything that deals with the ILR i.e. after 5 years of residency.

Cheers

One from the archives

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/po ... 84566.html

Read the last paragraph on the article.

It very clearly mentions

Changes will apply to new arrivals after the new laws are passed, and not to foreigners already living in the UK, so reforms are only likely to affect migrants arriving from 2010.

When migrants start respecting the UK then perhaps the UK might start respecting migrants a bit more. It's a 2 way street, our immigration laws are being flaunted on a daily basis, you only have to see the scam colleges to realise that, and yet you expect us to respect migrants more? Whilst a lot are genuine, it's the minority who are spoiling it for all migrants, just like the whole football hooliganism stigma which is still surrounding English football nearly 20 years on from Hillsborough and Heysel.

The only migrants, out of the list you gave above, that deserve the respect of the UK is the gurkhas. What they went through to get PR was a disgrace and it should've been given to them straight away.
