Skilled Worker Visa English requirements

Post by GabySoul » Mon Jul 31, 2023 4:53 pm

Hi!!

Applying for a skilled worker visa.

I received this email today:
The UK Decision Making Centre is currently assessing the application submitted by the above named. We are unable to conclude the application at this time as we require additional information.

Please provide the following documents:

* Evidence that you have met the English requirements as stated on Appendix English Language. This can be either a UKVI accredited English certificate from an approved testing centre, or an Ecctis letter to confirm the UK equivalent level of your qualification and that your overseas degree was taught or researched in English to level B1 of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework for Language learning or above.

Please see below links for more information regarding this requirement.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration ... h-language

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/prove-your- ... -test-selt

Question 1. I have never heard of Ecctis before, would it be sufficient if I sent a letter from uni stating that my degree is taught in English?

Question 2: 2 years ago, I studied in the UK at the uni, as an exhange student for 1 semester, if I directly send them

First of all, please don't jump into someone else's topic with your question - your situation is totally different from the one in the first post of previous topic. I split your post for now.

So how did you plan to satisfy the English language requirement?

I don't think it would help, unfortunately.

Hey! Thank you for doing this, I literally registered just now and could not figure out how to create a post separately

Applying for a skilled worker visa.

I actually sent them an English Certificate, that I took online and which was valid back then for temporary visa, but it is not IELTS nor Cambridge etc.

would it be sufficient if I sent a letter from uni stating that my degree is taught in English?

No.

OK! it is actually pretty obvious lol.

I actually drafted this letter:
I mean how strict they can be? it is kinda logical and this is not my first time in the UK, first, I studied for a semester, then did my internship for 6 months.

Dear UK Decision Making Centre,

I hope this message finds you well. This is****, and I am writing in response to your letter regarding my visa application with reference number ****.

I want to express my appreciation for your communication and the guidance provided concerning the English language requirement. I would like to inform you that I have already requested a letter from my university in Italy, confirming that my degree was taught in English. As soon as I receive this letter, I will promptly forward it to you via email.

Additionally, I took the initiative to provide evidence of my studies at *** University during the academic year 2021-2022. Enclosed with this email, you will find the following documents:
- Acceptance letter from **** University
- Proof of my attendance during the specified academic year.
- Photocopy of the letter from the University, which was sent to my previous address as indicated in my visa application, regarding the dispatch of my Student Card.

I hope that these provided documents will sufficiently demonstrate my fulfillment of the English language requirements.

Upon carefully reviewing the Home Office website, I observed that the approved test centers for English proficiency tests currently have limited availability in Italy, with no open slots before the end of August. Considering the 10-day timeframe I have been given to provide my English Proficiency Level, it would be challenging for me to schedule and complete the test within this period.

I respectfully inquire if the evidence of my studies at *** University in the UK, along with the fact that I possessed a valid IELTS certificate demonstrating my B2 level of English proficiency at the time of my application to the university in 2021, would be deemed sufficient as a demonstration of my English language proficiency. Given the current constraints in scheduling an English proficiency test at the approved centers, I kindly request your understanding and consideration in accepting the provided evidence of my studies as validation of my English language proficiency.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Small explanation on how to quote, so everyone can see what you're referring to:
Click "Reply", highlight the text in the message below and click "quote" - that should quote specifically the text you're referring to.

When did you pass the test and was it a SELT?

The guidelines are pretty strict. Have a read: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... accessible

While I see your point, it's much safer (and easier) for a caseworker to just refuse the application - I don't think a discretion is even possible.

I was hoping you'd done it around the time of application, as tests are usually valid for 2 years; I guess reusing your previous one isn't an option then.

I'm not completely familiar with the English requirement and if the fact that you proved your English proficiency back in 2021 would help; other knowledgeable members may provide better insight, but at the moment the situation is less then ideal.

Guidelines re the university letter:
If the degree is from a non-majority English country or from Canada you must check on the Visa and Nationality statement from Ecctis (formerly UK NARIC), which the applicant provides as evidence with their application
I would absolutely encourage you to try your best to either submit what you have or get an extension on the deadline, but there's no guarantee of success.

I knew I cannot use this, as my IELTS certificate is expired in 2021, but at the time of application to the uni, it was valid.

I already started the application with ECCTIS and will go with the fast track, however during the application, it seems like it is the service for those who already completed their degree. I am still enrolled at the university (I finished the courses and I writing my thesis), but not graduated yet. The certificate that I have from my uni states that I am enrolled and my course is taught in English, + I have my transcript. Will this be sufficient for Ecctis? This is very confusing, is ECCTIS only for those who have a degree?

Thank you, yes they came back with a rejection about my application due to my degree not yet been awarded, and I just found out that they also deduct 25GBP from the money I requested a refund. So annoying.

Anyway, I took the English test and got my results. I sent the results by email to decision-making centre. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take now to process my visa application? I hope it is not another 3 weeks.

Application rejected or you were told to provide the correct English language test certificate within certain time frame?

Visa application is still okay, I was able to take the test and send the results to UKVI within the 10 days timeframe. I meant Ecctis rejected me due to my degree not being awarded. Sorry for the confusion.

How long normally it takes to review now since I sent the additional document to UKVI? Any idea?

My visa is approved!
Timeline:
  • Applied for visa on 11 July
      Biometrics 17th July
The additional document was requested: 31st July (I was given 10 working days to send the document)
The additional document was sent to UKVI: on 8th August
'The decision has been made email' from TLS 16th August (I didn't know the status yet, I was on the edge  the longest day of my life)
The UKVI sent an email about the status on 17th August and also got my passport delivered the same day.

So happy!! Flying next week! I thought the timeline would be helpful for others as I found this forum very helpful!

Would you mind posting the timeline in a respective topic, in out of country timelines (uk-skilled-worker-visas/out-of-country- ... 60824.html )? That's where people usually go to see the processing times.
