Correct. Then you can also use the new service to submit your supporting documents.

You can only apply for a British passport once you are British, i.e. have been approved AND attended your citizenship ceremony.

Can you send me a link to where the new service is so I can read up about it

So I only apply for passport after everything is approved?

Does British Citizenship and Naturalisation mean the same thing?

Yes, once you have attended your ceremony. Note it is NOT the date you get your approval letter. You are only British once you have been to the ceremony.
Does British Citizenship and Naturalisation mean the same thing?
Yes. You are naturalising as a British Citizen.

Thanks CR001 :D

One final questions. We understand we need 2 referees. 1 a british citizen and the other someone with a professional background and known them for 3 years

We might have a little problem finding someone with a professional background and known them for 3 years. Is there anyway around this? What can we do?

Not really no as they have to sign the form confirming all the information etc.

I've been reading up on the British Citizenship process and just applying online for my wife. Can someone please confirm the documents that are required

Passport
Biometric Card
Life in UK Test
B1 English Test
Marriage certificate - is this required?

Do we require anymore docs such as proof of residents?

After I completed the online application will it give me the option to send the documents via post or through the priority service?

Im near the end of applying online and will post supported documents. My 2 question are -

When will we recieve biometric enrollment letter? Is it sent in post or will it ask me to print online after submitting?

After submitted application online. How long do I have before I posting supporting documents?

You will be able to download and print the biometric letter.

Usually post it within 10 or 15 days.

Wifes Application

I read another topic and slightly confused and worried now. I married my wife overseas and has been in the UK for over 5 years. Arrived on spouse visa. She received ILR in November. We have married certificate in English.

Does it matter that we haven't married in the UK? Will her application get rejected?

One last question just to clarify and put my mind at rest.

We haven't registered in the UK as married. Just married abroad and then wife came over on spouse visa. Is this still OK for british citizenship application.

Yes!!! There is NO requirement that a foreign marriage must be registered in the UK or you need to 'marry again' in the UK. You are overthinking this.

So my wife's BC application has been approved :D

Date of application: 11-02-2019
Date on Approval letter: 21-03-2019
Date of receipt of approval: 23-03-2019(pre-paid SD)
Date of receipt of ceremony letter: waiting

We are still waiting for the invitation to ceremony letter. I have seen that some people have the ceremony letter incorporated into their approval letter. Some have received it at a later date. Why is this? Has anyone emailed and ask for ceremony letter via email or to check status?

Any comments regarding ceremony letter on here would be greatly appreciated.

It appears to depend on where in the UK a person is based on whether the combined letter or individual letters are issued.

You need to wait to get the letter. You could also contact your council to find out.

Is the ceremony letter sent out by the council or home office?

Not sure as I got the combined letter which told me to contact the council to book my ceremony.

The ceremony letter can take a couple of weeks to get sent out.

Re: British Passport - Section 4 Grandparents Details

Section 4 - Parents Details (Passport application)

If both parents named below were born after 31st December 1982 OR were born outside the UK, we will need the full name, country, DOB & date of marriage of your GRANDPARENTS.

Yes to born outside the UK and No to born after 31st December 1982

Do we really need to give grandparents details?? :| If we do might need to guess DOB and date of marriage. Will this be a problem?

You do NOT need grandparent details for passport application as a Naturalised citizen.

Remember the same form is used for EVERYONE, British born and other.

Note also that you can only apply for the passport once the ceremony has been completed.

Brilliant thanks for clarifying! :D

Private ceremony is being booked for next week - just waiting for confirmation from council. I will send passport application next day after receiving certificate.
