Right of abode/certificate of entitlement - for Baby

Hi,

I'm holding an ILR and my wife is on dependent visa. Recently, we got a baby and applied for Indian passport and waiting. We aware that our baby would be eligible for UK Passport or Right of Abode as one of us holding ILR. However, our question is - Can we apply for Right of Abode from India (if one of the parent holding ILR and the baby born in UK) as we have to travel to India due to some emergency reason?

ROA can be applied within UK or from outside UK via from visa4uk website. If you dont have a passport for the child how would they even travel.

Why did not just apply for British First Child Passport instead of Indian Passport?

We have applied for Indian Passport already and waiting for it to be processed. have decided to go for Indian passport as India does not support dual citizenship. Thanks

How long do you plan to stay in India? I ask because ROA can take a while to come through. Now, although using Indian passport to get to India will be easy, it wont be easy to enter UK with that same Indian passport without the ROA!

My wife and baby will be staying in India for couple of months. ROA Processing time in UK takes 6 months seems. However, when i checked online forum, more people received ROA in India very sooner (approximately 2 weeks of time). Thanks

Hi All,

My husband was British Citizen through naturalisation and I hold ILR visa. Our five months old baby was born in India and she got her Indian passport. Now I am planning to apply ROA/COE for her. I would like to know if we miss to travel on the intended date of travel, is still the ROA/COE is valid? I mean can we travel anytime after getting ROA/COE or do we need to travel on or before the intended date of travel?

Also could anyone please let me know the list of documents need to be submitted for ROA/COE.

Normally, it’s valid for the duration of the passport.

Applying for a British passport may be quicker and then apply for an overseas citizen of india passport.

COE Right of Abode can take months.
