Depends on your nationality/immigration status and that of your partner, if you have one?

Once you are granted ILR, you may claim child benefit in your name and tax credits in joint names.

Hi Amber - I am aware of who can claim it. My question is what is it and who usually qualifies for it. Eg: is it for people below a certain income level or similar

Tax credits are income related so if you earn a substantial annual salary, you won't qualify.

Well you should be ok claiming Child Benefit so far as you don't earn more than £50,000 PA. For tax credits, as CR001 points out, it will depend on your income, tapering down as income increases.
