Ancestry Visa and Illegitimate Line

Hi There,

I'm looking to apply for an ancestry visa to live and work in the UK. I'm applying through my father's side as his dad was born in Scotland. The issue is my father is illegitimate since my grandparents were unmarried when my father was born (in fact they never married. My grandparents were bother and sister-in-law and gotten together after they were both widowed but didn't stay together).

The issue is, under Canadian law at the time of my dad's birth, father's information was not disclosed on a birth certificate if the child was born out of wedlock. So the issue is my grandfather does not appear on my dad's birth certificate.

My grandfather does appear on my dad's wedding certificate. So I have all our long form birth certificates including my granddad's from Scotland, my parent's wedding certificate. We also have my granddad's death certificate, a copy of his obituary, and we're looking into getting a copy of his will which would include my father as he got inheritance with my grandfather died.

I know that the visa guide says you can apply through an illegitimate line but realistically what are my chances of this getting approved?

Can't you claim ancestry through your grandmother then??

I did and my grandmother wasn't married to my mothers father and the father never featured on her birth certificate either.

No, my grandmother was born in Canada. My grandfather is my only grandparent born in the UK.

I think you will have a problem as unabridged birth certificates showing the full line through which you are claiming is required for Ancestry applications.

I am not sure if you write a detailed explanation whether it would be taken into consideration or not.
