MN1 - does a GP need to provide his passport number?

Hi all,

Really fuming right now at this requirement by the HO. But trying to keep my calm and going to ask you couple of questions here. Please if some experts can help with this. @Amber, @Obie, @Vinny and anyone else, please ?

Our 1.5 year old child's health Visitor has recently changed jobs and is not working at the local place anymore. I contacted the GP to provide the professional reference and he has asked that I drop the docs at the practice and he will go through to see if he can and want to do this.

My questions are:

1. Does a GP need to provide his personal details (address, contacts), especially his British Passport Number ?

2. What if the GP is a different nationality and doesn't have a British Passport ?


To me it sounds stupid for a professional referee to provide his personal details? What are your views on this? I think the HO has messed up once again big style, like many other things :-//

If this is for a referee, doctors are not on the list of professionals unless you know them in a personal capacity (though if your GP doesn't mind it's probably OK).

1. Yes, address and contact details. No, professional referee does not have to give their passport number.
2. Professional referee can be of any nationality, just leave it blank.

The other referee must be British and have a valid passport IIRC.

They can also provide the clinic address if they prefer.

Why would a doctor not be on the list for professional referee list? Really confused.com now :-/

Noone else apart from a HV or a doctor have worked professionally with the child, so who else then?

Please advise?

Also can someone share this 'list' of professionals who can provide a reference ?

Still trying to figure out the logic n thinking behind this list not listing the doctors in there when they have dentist, and even chiropodists in there :-//

Well interestingly there is no mention to health visitor in there either, so for a child who can provide this reference? In the firm it says, HV can provide a reference but according to this list they can't ?

Is it ok to get this professional ref from the GP ? Or not ?

Please advise as getting totally baffled by this.

It's OK as long as they're willing to sign and actually know you personally. Doctors were taken off because people were just going to their GP to get a referee and it wastes their time and half the time the doctor doesn't even know the person except for the fact they're registered there.
