Vreemdelinge Dienst Enquiry

Post by sirlim » Wed Dec 03, 2014 10:14 pm

I understand that aliens who need to go to the Netherlands for short stays need to register with the "alien's police" or "vreemdelinge dienst". Are they open during New Year's eve or New Year's Day? More importantly, do we need to book an appointment and show official paperwork (e.g. formal invitation from host) saying they are allowing us to stay with them?

Hmmm... tourism though we may wish to stay with my relatives in lieu of commercial accommodations. Let's say 2 nights on one occassion that I go to Germany for 1 night then 2 more nights in the Netherlands before leaving Schengen.

You don't have to register if you are a tourist. I have read the information on the official vreemdelinge dienst website and it is for periods of stay longer than 3 months etc.

The requirement for short stay (90 days or less) visitors to report to the Aliens Police has been abolishedalmost a year ago: per 1-1-14. Hotels used to forward a copy of the passport to the Aliens Police to report the visitor, those who stayed at private accomodation had to use a website or report in person. Non of this is required anymore.

For immigrants (long stay) there was no reporting to the AP. They ofcourse will need to visit the IND (immigration & naturisation department) to collect their residence permit or start an application procedure.
