Higher Education University FEE under HSMP extention period

Post by jiffry130157 » Sun Sep 16, 2007 10:23 am

Hi All

Can anyone have this experience and also answer.
I came under HSMP in November 2005 and got the extension in November 2006 till November 2010. My daughter came to UK in June 2006 as a dependant and now she got through Scottish Higher examination and qualified for University entrance. Therefore I am planning to send her to University after a gap year so she will be three years in UK by June 2009.

I am in the opinion that she will be treated as settle status after three years of staying in UK and so she will be not treated as international student to pay hugh tuition fee which is impossible to pay as per my earning.

Can anyone tell me whether the people who are in initial five years under HSMP considered as settle status or not?

it seems though still to be fully verified settel status comes after obtaining ILR status!

Thank you all

The UK council for international student affairs has the guidelines for paying the in-country rate at http://www.ukcosa.org.uk/student/inform ... ition_fees

There are several guidelines, but in your case what applies is that the student must be settled in the UK (eg; permanent residency, ILR, not temporary), and they need to have been resident for 3 years as of the date when classes commence. There is an indicator of when the date used for class commencement is, within the guidelines.

Hope that helps.

To add to the above, your daughter needs to have ILR, PR or an equivalent status in order to qualify for 'home fees' So she will not qualify until 2010, or 2011, or thereafter. The UKCOSA guidelines clearly state so, and I'm sure the universities all know about these requirements.

So, if she obtains ILR before the start date of her course in September 2010, she will qualify for 'home fees' beginning Sept 2010 onwards. If her ILR comes after Sept 2010 (e.g. November 2010), she will qualify for 'home fees' beginning Sept 2011.

I assume she is 17 or 18 yrs old? What will she do between now and 2010/11?

Hi sakura,
when i enquired a few weeks back one college is ready to take me as home student. I have been here for 3 years now. But am just concerned if my name does not come up in public funds. Coz i would have a probelm in getting ILR.

What is your visa status? Is this a big college/university? What are you studying, and when does the course start?

You should be very aware that, sometimes, a teacher or professor might tell you one status, but the fees office of the college might look at your application and give you 'international' fees. Also, you might have to proove your status with your passport, and if you don't have ILR, they might change your status.

Just make sure you are indeed going to be given 'home' fees before your course starts.

She will pay international fee. But I have heard (does not have time yet to prove it). that some universities in the UK will charge home fee for non EU students who has studied and payed international fee for over 3 years.

So the best bet is to conatct university that she is going to apply as each univertisy will hav edifferent policy. It is just a matter of phone call.
