online application 'settlement' or 'spouse /cp' ?

hi,

I'd really appreciate any quick help on this question.
my spouse is now in home country and made the online visa application.
when it came to booking the appointment, the online form asked for selection of:

'settlement'
or
'spouse/cp'

we don't know which is right for us. please can anyone advise?

I am a UK citizen, working in UK. we have been married for 6 years. we lived together in uk (spouse visa) for 2 years 2009 - 2011. we lived together abroad until 2013, when i returned to UK to work. since then we have been forced to be apart except for holidays, visiting each other.

What type of visa are you applying for? if its settlement, ie you want her to live with you permanently in the UK, then settlement should be the correct choice?

i think that is where we are confused.

we thought it was 'settlement' (understanding that means she gets 2 years, then can re-apply, and finally get ILR), but the 'spouse' category has confused us. she is my 'spouse' so is that what she needs?

how can I confirm the type of visa we are applying for?
I have re-looked through some of the many forms we have completed, but can't see an obvious description.

We had VAF4A and VAF4A appendix2. I can see now that VAF4A is for 'family settlement' and VAF4A app2 is for 'spouse' so if we were required to complete both does that mean we are applying for spouse?
