Changing the sponsor for my Tier 2 General Visa

I have been working in Aberdeen UK for the last two year under tier 2 general visa. I have been relocated to London with same company, and consequently it was must to change the sponsor of the visa.
I wonder is it necessary to have same visa type and category for the new visa, can company change the visa, to any other category ( for example Tier 2 ICT, and how long this process should normally take.

Is it a foreign company or a UK company?

Tier 2 ICT says : https://www.gov.uk/tier-2-intracompany- ... a/overview

You can apply for a Tier 2 (Intra-company Transfer) visa if:

your overseas employer has offered you a role in a UK branch of the organisation
you’re from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland
you meet the other eligibility requirements

So if it is a UK company, Tier 2 ICT is not applicable.

Why would you want or think you can change change to Tier 2 ICT?

it is an overseas company, has different entity in UK,and they will be applying for changing the sponsor of my visa, and as i understand it will be a new visa process,as it is different entity, is this the normal procedures ??.
I want to keep same visa type tier 2 general, but not sure about the process, can they change it or the new visa must be same type and category as the current one.
