Applying for citizenship - Please help

Hi ,

I got IRL on 28th Jun 2014 . so I think i am eligible to apply for citizenship after 28th Jun 2015 according to 12 months rule.

But I am confusion becuase i got ILR using 3 months grace period . so my clock started on 1st oct 2009 but due to grace period i was able to apply 3 months earlier infact 4 months earlier because for ILR we can apply 28 days before (3 months grace + 28 days rule).

can anybody please advice if i can apply for citizen ship in on 28th Jun 2015 or 1st Oct 2015 .

For naturalisation applications it is counting 5 years backwards from date of application, so if you apply on 28th June 2015, the qualifying period is 28 June 2010 to 28 June 2015.

You will need to make sure that you were physically present in the UK on the exact same date 5 years ago that HO receives your application.

Thats correct if i can count 5 years backward the qualifying period is 28 June 2010 to 28 June 2015 .

On the website it is mentioned that one should have ILR for at least 1 year and should be in U.K for at least 5 years . the reason i am still not sure because one can get ILR only after 5 years of stay in U.K . Hence i was counting the duration to be six years.

5 years of Stay + 12 months in ILR.

I have no more than 200 days of leave outside U.K since Oct 2009 till now.

Sorry about my confusion but would be great full if you can respond to this.

The qualifying criteria is 5 years stay which includes 12 months on ILR (4 PBS + 1 ILR) unless you are married to a British Citizen, then the requirements are different.

So yes, your total stay would be roughly 6 years but the first year is irrelevant for the purpose of citizenship applications and qualifying period.
