Post by missabc123 » Sat May 30, 2015 8:43 pm

Hi there

Ex (South African) needs to apply for british citizenship and I have a list below of the likely costs, can you see anything potentially missing?

Life in the UK test £50
Applying for Dual Citizenship: Naric letter to confirm degree was in English (and prove speaks English) £55.20
UK Govt confirming current non-citizenship letter: £162
SA Consular dual citizenship application: £25
Naturalisation: £1005
Passport cost: £72
Council form checking for Citizenship application: £75

Many thanks
L

Yup, that sounds about right.

These two below only needed if he wishes to retain his SA passport and ID Book. If not, he will still have right of residence and will be a Non-SA Citizen but free to live and work in SA should he wish to. These two steps will also need to be done first and can take between 2 weeks and 6 weeks to complete before he can apply for British Citizenship.
UK Govt confirming current non-citizenship letter: £162
SA Consular dual citizenship application: £25
This last step below, obviously comes after he has attended his ceremony and received his naturalisation certificate.
Passport cost: £72
Char (CR001 not Casa)

Note that the NCS service costs varies wildly from council to council. If you're in London there are so many councils you can shop around - fees can vary from £50 (Hammersmith) to £80+ (Essex/Kensington). And they seem to go up every few months, too.

Biometric information, currently £19.20 also needed to be added in costs.
