Council home in Manchester and Birmingham

Post by imraheel » Wed Jun 03, 2015 11:35 am

Hello.

I want to move to Manchester or Birmingham. Can anyone please advise me that, considering Manchester or Birlingham, where is it easy to get the council home? Which of these two cities has less waiting list and how many council houses these two cities provide in a year? Is there any data and statistics
available on websites?

waiting for reply.
Thanks and regards.

Neither looks promising. But then, I'm sure you are aware that there is a major social housing shortage in the country.

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/lo ... -year-9057
The average waiting time for all housing types – including flats, maisonettes and two and three-bedroom houses – is an estimated six years.(2012)
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ed-1310378
New government figures show the number of people waiting for homes has gone from 50,466 in 1997 to 102,025 last year (2012.
You can always raise an FoI request through the Whatdotheyknow website to find out about how many people are on the waiting list and how many properties are available.

Also in the thread below in Sep 2014 you asked about whether your wife could be included on your application for Council housing as she is on a FLR(M) visa. At the time I advised that she couldn't be considered in the calculation and accommodation would only be awarded as a single person with two children.

As the situation stands with social housing in many areas in the UK, only homeless families or those living in unacceptable living conditions will be at the top of the waiting list. The lack of available Council accommodation is evident in the links secret.simon has posted for Birmingham and Manchester. Some areas have even longer waiting times.
