In country application and Out country Stamp Tier 4

Dear all,

Hope all is fine. I am looking to pick someones brain who is genius.

My friend will be coming from abroad to attend FIA first stage (Foundation in Accountancy) on tourist visa as the course is less than 6 months. Now once she finishes my undersatnding is that she has to go back to home country and apply for tier 4 visa to pursue further.

However, when I spoke to someone here in the Uk they said she can do all the application here and just need to get the biometric and passport stamp in home country. This this means the visa approval will be done in the UK and she just need to return to get the passport stamped or its just the application form that is done in the UK online?

I would be concerned that your friend is coming to the UK on a standard tourist visa to do a short course of study if the course is more than 30 days provided that studying is not the main purpose of the visit, see here (click) what a tourist visa holder can and can't do. Your friend should be on Short Term Study Visa (Click) if the course is longer than 30 days.

Anyone in the UK on a standard tourist visa is not permitted to switch or apply for any other visa category from within the UK. If you friend is indeed on a standard tourist visa, your friend will have to return to their home country and make Tier 4 application there.

Will the college or university not sponsor her under Tier 4 for the FIA? If so, she can come under Tier 4, then (if the new course starts <28 days after the visa ends) extend the Tier 4 visa for the second course.
