Information needed as UKBA seems uncontactable

Post by chungfucius » Wed Jun 17, 2015 4:10 pm

Here goes
I am a British Citizen by birth. My ex is Malaysian, but has the ROA as one of her parents was a British Citizen. We have 2 children (over the age on 18) who were born overseas, but have more or less lived here and attended primary/Secondary/University in UK.
They always had a ROA sticker in their passports, which had to be renewed every 5 years when the passport had to be renewed. Since the Home Office changed the processing time of ROA applications (now 6 months), I was wondering whether now would be a good time to either apply for citizenship or is there another way to do this. So basically I am not sure whether the Indefinite Leave to Remain would be an option. I am loathed for them to give up their citizenship as it may be of some use to them someday. What I am peeved off about is that we have to fork out every time they renew their passport. I have been told that some foreign nationals carry around a British ID card, just wondering whether that would be something to pursue, and if so, how.

Any help or advice gratefully welcome.

thanks

If you are British by birth and were born in the UK, then your children are British by descent and can apply directly for passports.

Thanks for the reply. The only thing is that I wanted them to keep their citizenship, and their mother country does not recognise dual citizenships. Hence the reason for the ROA certificate.

Then their only option is CoE-RoAs.

some foreign nationals carry around a British ID card
The card you are referring to is the foreign nationals visa called a Biometric Residence Permit.

ROA is the only way as it appears now. As they are over 18, surely it is their choice or decision which citizenship they wish to hold?
