Working in EU country with a Schengen Visa

Post by lemony » Thu Jul 09, 2015 8:57 pm

Hi,

We have a UK ILR and my husband has a 4 yr Schengen Visa as well. We are eligible for British Citizenship in Oct 15, however he is having an advanced discussion on a job application for a position based in Berlin.

Question is that till the time we get the British Passport, can he be legally based in Berlin as a permanent employee of the Berlin office only on the basis of his existing long term schengen visa?

Thanks in anticipation,

A Schengen visa is a tourist/visitor visa. A person is not permitted to work with a Schengen visa.

See this link on how to apply for a work visa for Germany.

http://www.germany-visa.org/work-employment-visa/

Be mindful of the absence limits if you/partner want to apply for Citizenship on form AN. You need to be in the UK to naturalise as British Citizen.

My advice would be to do your citizenship, attend the ceremony and get the certificate after which you can apply for your passports and once received, no visas required for Germany.
