English centre test not in transitional list

Post by vin100 » Fri Jul 17, 2015 1:07 pm

Hi all ,

Sorry if this post is a duplicate , as in the moment when I was posting , the disappeared .

I have a question regarding the English requirement .
In short , I got ILR one year ago ,and I was in Tier 1 Visa before that .
In 2012 , I passed an English test at Centre of Excellence , CELT , with C1 grade which was Home Office approved at that time . Recently , however , when checking the transitional list ,
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... _tests.pdf , it seems to me that that centre test is no longer in the list .

Do I , therefore ,need to retake an English test from a recent approved centre ?

Many thanks for your help .

Is this for citizenship?
As you took the test before April 2015, is it still listed on the Ofqual site?

The wording on UK Gov website causes endless confusion (& stress):
https://www.gov.uk/english-language/app ... ifications

but it does say...
You can also prove your knowledge of English by having:

an ESOL qualification at Entry 3 or higher (eg Level 1 or 2) on the Ofqual register taken in England, Wales or Northern Ireland - qualifications at Entry 1 or 2 won’t be accepted
Note :!:
From November 2015, you won’t be able to use ESOL qualifications as proof for settlement and citizenship applications.

Infact my Englist test centre was College of Excellence , CIELT (Certificate In English Language Test) which was recommended in our website .

Today when I clicked to http://www.coex.org.uk/ , it seems the website is no longer in use ?

Yes, unfortunately if the qualification is not on the SELT transitional list & not on the Ofqual website either then it will not be accepted.

Unless you qualify for exemption (for example, by age or by holding a UK degree or equivalent studied in English) then you will need to take an English ESOL test at CEFR B1 level (or above).
Good luck.

Hi

I also took exam from College of Excellence. Have you booked your new exam yet?

Is it going to be problem when we apply for ILR because our old certificate is no longer accepted?

Thanks

Unfortunately for settlement (ILR), HO uses the SELT list within Appendix O of the rules.
So, if you have an ESOL certificate from before April, the transitional list now applies for settlement, (until November 2015).

What is the title of the test that you had taken. Does the test appear on the transitional list (forget about the test centre at this stage).

From 6 April 2015, the rules changed in satifying two requirements, having an approved list and having it done from an approved test centre. Prior to this date, the only requirement was to have an approved test (from the transtional list which is still acceptable until 5 November 2015). It does not matter at which test centre the test was taken at as this was not part of the requirement and only introduced from 6 April 2015 for tests taken on or after this date.

In summary:

Tests taken prior to 6 April 2015 only needs to be an approved test on the transitional list.

Tests taken on or after 6 April 2015 needs to be both an approved test and taken at an approved test centre on the current SELT list.
