Renouncing home country citizenship and keeping British one.

Post by Rafuk » Thu Oct 22, 2015 3:50 pm

Hi,

I have renounced my home country citizenship and keep my British citizenship. This was done in order to travel to my home country as a British person. I read somewhere that I need to notify UK government that I renounced my home country citizenship so that they could protect me while I am visiting that country.
Could you please advise about the link or telephone number where I could call or email about this

Thanks
Rafuk

Use of embassy facilities/consular assistance if there are any issues, i.e. crime victim, natural disasters, etc.

British Government does not keep a record of who a dual national is. Usually when you come across a circumstance where you need diplomatic help from British Govt, you will have to provide proof

a. you are a British national
b. you are not a national of the country where you need help.

If you have renounced your home country citizenship, you will have been given a document to say so, which you can provide to the British Consulate along with your British citizenship proof to get diplomatic help, when needed.

If you are a victim of assault and rape (and has been the case in my home country for British tourists), you get assistance from the embassy/consular.
