Travel before new CoS start date

Hi guys

I am switching employers and in the process of getting my visa approved. My start date is 4 January 2016. I am planning to travel back home for Xmas before starting at the new place. Question: is it fine to travel outside the UK on the basis of my new CoS (with a 4 Jan 2016 start date) ? Or can I rely on my current leave to remain even though I would have finished serving notice at the previous employer?

Have you applied for your new Tier 2 G visa?

Not yet but - I will submit next week. I plan to travel around 20 December, so it should approved by that time.

Once you have applied and are granted your new Tier 2 General visa, your current visa will be superseded.

Ok thanks, given that the COS start date on the new visa will be 4 January 2016, does that prevent me from travelling outside of the country during Xmas? The plan is to return on 2 January before I start work on 4 Jan.

Your new visa will likely start from CoS start date or just before.
