Can I work while my application is still in progress?

Hi Friends,
I am on a Tier2(General) visa currently and my visa expires on 5th January 2016. As you can notice, my visa will expire in a couple of months and I did make a new application for extension(Tier2 General) through post on 7th November 2015. My question is, if I did not get a decision on my application by 5th January, am I eligible to continue working after 5th January until I receive a decision from UKVI??

If Yes, Can you please send me a reference link from official website please?. This will help me as my company is worried about this state.

if you are not switching employers and are only applying for an extension to remain in your current job, you can continue working as your existing conditions continue until HO make a decision.
