Council Tax Summon

Post by vinit_tyagi » Tue Nov 17, 2015 12:28 pm

Hi,

I am going to renew my tier 2 general visa by the end of this month. I have question regarding criminal and unspent convictions.
Earlier this year I received court summon in my and my wife's name for non payment of council tax. I paid the full whole year council tax immediately and did not go to court. I also asked council whether this would affect my criminal record. Council replied saying that my credit rating and criminal records were not affected as I paid full payment for the whole year.
Should it be included in my visa application?

Thanks
V

If it didn't go to court it should not be an issue, i.e. you did not get a liability order issued through the magistrates court.

Yeah. No liability order was obtained.

Thank you very much for the response.

Hi CR001,

During 2011 I got liability order for council tax from magistrates court, And I arranged for Special payment plan and I paid everything in full through a bailiffs including court costs.

I didn’t mention anything about this in my tier 2 extension which was successful in 2013, Would this be an issue for my ILR next year?

As far as I researched, if it has been paid in full before I make an application its ok. Unless it didn’t turn to a criminal conviction (not paying at all)

Thanks

if one has the summon, calls council to make payments would that be an issue?

I called council they said they have obtained a liability order but no criminal conviction etc was recorded against me .

please advise as I need to make an application soon.

I disputed the charge by saying I have not received the bills and demonstrated this and they accepted this and waved all excess charges but according to the lady the court hearing went ahead but nothing was recorded against me as I paid it as I discussed with them
