Can BNO holder marry in UK?

Hi,

I'm a Hong Kong citizen, and hold a BNO passport. Is it legal for me to marry in UK or in a UK consulate overseas that allows it?

You aren't considered to be a UK national and are subject to UK immigration control, so you will have the same rules as other non-EU citizens.

To marry in the UK you will need to apply for a Marraige Visitor visa.

You must apply for a Marriage Visitor visa if:

you want to get married or register a civil partnership in the UK



How long you can stay

Are you saying that you want a civil partnership to a British citizen in a same sex marriage and live in the UK? If you are and he can afford to sponsor you, you can apply for the Fiance visa. That visa is no working in the UK and you will need to pay for the NHS if you use it. But after the civil partnership you can apply for another partner visa from within the UK and that visa will allow you to work and use the NHS for free once you have paid your health surcharge.

If you don't want to live in the UK with your British partner after your civl partnership, then it is the Mariage Visitor visa. Must leave the UK at the end of that visa, must pay for the NHS at point of use.

I don't think the UK does see this as the same as marriage? Not sure, others will know, but there was a case in the paper recently where the pension of a deceased person could not pass to his same sex partner.

Same sex marriage is now recognised and possible in the UK, changed a while ago so not just civil partnership anymore.

Marriage (i.e. same as hetrosexual) is recent. Before this only civil partnership was possible.

I fail to see how your 'pension rights' comments/statements are relevant in any way to the OPs rather simple original question.

In my first post I answered his orignal post part about how to get marreid in the UK and told him about the Marraige visa and added links.

In my second post, as he had asked about the UK's stance on same sex marriage, I told him about the Fiance visa too in case he wanted to settle in the UK with a brit partner. I also mentioned that I didn't know about the UK marriage part and then googled it.

In my third post, aftrer I had googled, I added a bit more on the UK's stance on same sex marriage with the court rulings on pensions as although it seems same sex marriage is accected in the UK, sadly their rights to pensions are not the same. That then gave him the full UK stance on same sex marriage and how to marry in the UK on a visit or to settle.

Why didn't you want him to have all the facts? Or did you really not understand why I put all that for him?

I should add that the UK is four countries and according to wiki, Northerm Ireland does not allow same sex marriages. The other 3 countries (England, Scotland and Wales) do.

Maybe if you actually read the whole bit of what you part quoted it would make sense. I was not questioning your advice on fiance/marriage visa. I was simply referring to your pension rights comments due to the fact that you frequently go on in threads about people claiming benefits or using the NHS etc. when this is not what is being asked. Perhaps it is you who does not understand
