Tier 4 approved, then get EU citizenship BEFORE entering UK

Post by nutmeg567 » Fri Dec 04, 2015 11:33 am

The scenario:

- person from USA applied for a Tier 4 visa and was approved
- person got the 30 day entry sticker in passport
- BUT what if person then suddenly receives new EU citizenship/passport BEFORE entering the UK?

I believe person should:

- enter UK under EU passport
- inform sponsor

BUT:

- how to inform UKVI?
- re: BRP - go to the post office and explain the scenario, explaining the person no longer needs one?

Thanks!

Interesting position to be in.

Ensure the university's international support office is fully briefed before you commence your academic year/studies to ensure you are recognised in the appropriate fee category;
(ie Home/EU versus Overseas student);

:!: you may not be able to change this fees basis once you start the course

Don't forget CSIC.

Thanks, the person is applying for various health options.

It's unclear who is going to ask for proof of it, though. The university?

As I understand it, EU citizens studying in UK do not HAVE to obtain a formal document stating their right to residence, although if they decide to obtain it, then they show proof of CSIS.

To be considered a 'qualified person' as a EU student, the will need to hold comprehensive sickness insurance. Proof of this will also be required if he wishes to apply for a certificate confirming permanent residence after 5 years (has to hold CSI for the full time he is a student or self sufficient).

do EU students who go to UK to study typically fill out form EEA(QP) (Qualified Person)? Seems like a lot of process.

Welcome to our (EU) world.

Joking apart, uni officials should be guiding you through this now.

fyi - universities in UK are now forced to operate as 'proxy immigration officials (on behalf of government agencies) or else face robust penalties for any students registered in breach of regulations.

So as an EEA national all this documentation is optional;
as a student be expected to submit your credentials & comply as university deems appropriate.

sorry, this board replies faster than the uni :/

Seriously, though, I did not expect that the Uni would ask EU citizen students to go through QP certification. Do they typically?

This person is happy to provide all documents. Just worried about timing and a government application takes a long time.

No I don't think they do. EU passport should be enough.

I don't know where you're studying so I chose a UK institution at random - here is an example of their guidance:
http://www.ed.ac.uk/international-offic ... quirements

Fee basis

Important next step is to register the fact that you are an EU and not US student. (Fee basis is not readily changeable once you start).

About CSI.

If you want your time in UK to count towards acquiring permanent residence (PR) then you need CSI.
The university won't really be concerned about CSI (they may/may not even remember to advise you to get it).
You will however need evidence of CSI if you have long term plans for life in UK & want to start your PR clock asap.
