Change Wife's Surname after Naturalization

Post by kish_kk84 » Mon Dec 07, 2015 11:47 am

Hi all,

We've got naturalization approval letter and ceremony is booked for 15th Dec'15.

I am looking to change my wife's surname as this is the first time we got the opportunity. Can i know the procedure to change her surname? Going forward her British passport and OCI card must have the new surname.

As per the application, approval letter, the naturalization certificate will have her maiden surname.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers
Kish

Name Change for myself

Post by kish_kk84 » Mon Dec 07, 2015 11:52 am

Hi all,

My naturalization is approved and has name as per indian passport (surname name consists of father's name plus surname). The naturalization certificate which i will get will have name as per indian passport.

So I am planning to change my surname going forward in British passport and OCI card. Can i know the procedure to get this changed.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Kish

1. Apply for first British passport in the "current" forename + surname.
2. After receiving British passport, cancel Indian passport.
2. Change name through deed poll.
3. Apply for a new British passport under the "new" forename + surname.
4. Apply for OCI under new name and include notarised copy of deed poll as evidence of name change.

If you are both changing names then yes, what sushdmehta has advised will apply to both of your.

Yes, you will need to pay for a British passport again.

CR001, will i face any issues while applying for OCI using a new name as per the british passport but our naturalization certificate will have old name. I think we have to submit both British passport and Naturalization certificate while applying for OCI.

Please shed some light.

I am not familiar with OCI applications. You need to ask this question in the Other Countries (click) Forum.

The assumption though would be that if you have a deed poll, it should be fine.
