Will it affect my citizen application...?

Post by KA941 » Tue Dec 22, 2015 2:00 pm

Hi Respected members,

Both myself and my wife have had our ILR since Jan 2015 and my 2 yo son was naturalised couple of months after that. However we have not be claiming child benefit as have heard mixed stories that it can affect citizen application.

I am in real doubt and so seeking some help/advice

The only benefit I want to claim is child benefit and want to ask

Will it affect mine and my wife's citizen application if none of us earn more than GBP 50,000 a year?
Will I have to declare in form AN whether we are claiming these benefits?
The form asks for both parents names, About you and partner, my understanding is that the benefit claimed will be under the name of the first person and partners information is for completeness.
Is there any harm in claiming benefit under my wife's name even though she is not working right now?

I feel I have already lost out on some hundred pounds so dont want to delay in claiming if I can... :(

Your urgent help will be greatly appreciated
Also, if there is anything I need to be aware of, please guide me towards it

Cheers

It will NOT affect your citizenship application.

As you and your wife hold ILR, you are free to claim any benefits you qualify for.

Many thanks CR001

Your help is greatly appreciated. I will now fill the form and send it straight away.

Just quickly, will it make any difference whether I claim under my name or my wife's name? Both got ILR on the same day? Only asking as some other posts suggest to claim under father or mother name?

I know I will have to pay tax if the individual income of either partner in the house hold goes above GBP50k

Thanks again

Makes no difference in whose name you claim.

Tax credits (if you claim) must be in joint names though.
