If you don't have / can't get all the documents you need then this route may help:sacredzero wrote:Hi everyone,
Hopefully someone can assist/direct me here. I am applying for British citizenship through my mother, born to her before 1983. I have literally everything needed except my long from birth certificate from South Africa. I have one issued in 1987 but its a "standard" or short form? one I guess and I am not sure if I can use this. I live in the US as a permanent resident and my entire family (mom, dad, sister etc.) now live in the UK and I want to be able to move there/travel freely.
I have applied through the South African Embassy in Washington for my birth certificate and I have been waiting now for 3 years...yes 3 YEARS!! I have called, emailed, harassed, sent 12 requests and I am no where. At this point South Africa has become so undeniably corrupt that unless I am willing to pay a 3rd party service nearly $1000 for my certificate I have literally no hope. FYI this was told to me by a representative at the Embassy; absolutely unreal!
I have not been able to get an answer from the UK government, not even sure whom to ask as to even talk to someone you have to pay an outrageous fee. Any assistance or direction would be greatly appreciated.
