Arranged marriages spouse visa

Post by heihaci » Sat Jan 02, 2016 6:51 pm

Hi all

I've been lurking around this forum for quite a while in preparation of my wife's visa application. I'm from the UK but got an arranged marriage in Bangladesh.

I meet the financial category A and accommodation requirements so I can't see that being a problem for the ECO.
My mom arranged the marriage for me by going Bangladesh two weeks earlier than me and looking at potential brides. Then I went two weeks later and then went to my wife's house with my family to meet her for the first time. I really liked her and she like me too and we agreed to get married and a date was set for marriage and after marriage she lived with me for 5 days before I went back to the UK. There aren't any photos of us together before the marriage as this is not normal in bangladeshi culture but photos of my mum with my wife before marriage. We did whatsapp each other and have phone conversation before marriage but she was using someone else's phone and I was using my moms phone with a bangladeshi sim card. I have managed to take screenshots of the whatsapp conversation on my mum's phone.
I'm worried that the ECO might think this is not a genuine marriage but it's hard to prove it to them.
Any advice would be appreciated?

The Entry Clearance Officer will be well aware of the traditions involved with an arranged marriage. Submit all the evidence you have of contact between you since the wedding.

My wife is 19 and I'm 37... will they question the age gap?

They should not, but might.

Has your wife passed the English A1 requirement from an approved test centre?

They are not permitted to refuse an application due to an age difference as long as you can show the relationship is genuine.

With age difference, there is usually a concern about forced marriages. But if there is evidence that all party agrees and there was no coercion then you will be fine .

I fully support the advise already provided.

I was going to submit some screenshots of whatsapp and video chat and emails over 3-4 month period.
Do i need to submit daily screenshots or is that a danger of being too much for ECO?

With the genuineness test, I don't think you can overdo it (unless it's really a huge amount).

They can't refuse it on any age gap, and the spouses being within X years of each other in age is not a requirement of the rules, but age difference might be a factor in some ECOs deciding whether it is a genuine marriage or not.
I am not, and cannot, offer legal advice to particular people. I can only discuss general areas of immigration law.

People should always consider obtaining professional advice about their own particular circumstances.
