Hi gents, remember that old unwritten rule, by which we had to enter country within the first 28 days of visa issue, in order not to have problems with extension?
Is it still in place or the calculation now starts from the visa issue date, rather than the date of first entry?
I'm just confusing myself because somewhere on the back of my head I remember that something changed to that 28 days to enter country. Could be wrong though!

Is this an enquiry relating to leave under Appendix FM for a spouse/civil partner? If so, leave to enter is given with an additional 3 months not 28 days, so technically you can enter some 3 months and 55 days after the start date, but that would be cutting it fine.

What visa are you applying for?
Most visas issued abroad now are only valid for 30 days and the migrant needs to enter within that time and collect the Biometric Residence Permit (visa) at the designation Post Office within 10 days of arrival.

Whoa. I did not know that! It's my wife's spouse and step-daughter dependent visas. They have received an e-mail that their visas are ready (approved or declined yet to know!). We are having 2 weeks vacation abroad from 11th of March, so I was thinking whether they should come here before and if so, for what reason. The only reason I was thinking of was 28 days issue. Apparently, not quite teh case?

If they have been issued a '30 day' vignette, they should enter within that time. Otherwise there is a cost involved to get another 30 day visa.

If this is a new new visa, then yes, from March last year they issued a 30 days temporary visa, this is explained when you apply

Do you know how much? The plane tickets are costly, so it might be cost effective to pay for an extra vignette later than come over here and wait 10 days for BRP, potentially missing the vacation and enormous cost associated with that.

Thanks Amber, I'm not sure what to look for really, because certainly it's not the full spouse visa charge again?

Comes under, other, other fees, then Vignette transfer (transfer of a valid visa vignette to a new passport)

By the way, you don't wait for the BRP to arrive - with the visa, the applicant gets a letter for BRP collection , stating the designated post office. The BRP has to be collected at the post office within 10 days of arrival, so they can go on the day of arrival or the next day for instance.

Yep. At first I thought that the person has to wait 10 days for it, and we know how "well" it works sometimes.
