I think if you try the 10 year visa once your mother has visited UK for 2-4 times, the chances are higher. It would help if you have a sibling or close relative in India that your mother depend on (adding strong reason to return home following the UK trip)Wanderer wrote:Visit visas are for 2/3 week visits a couple of times ad hoc, they are not child-minding visas nor are they to be used as residency visas.
Case worker was spot on, you're lucky you got the six month one and if you mother stays for five months on this one you probably won't get another.
There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding here of the meaning of "visit".dkm wrote:The Letter from the High commission Stated
" To qualify for a Long term visa you must show that you intend to travel to the UK often. You need to provide information and supporting evidence to satisfy the entry clearance officer that your circumstances are likely to remain very similar for the full duration of the visa validity, and tha over the duration of your proposed visit you can afford to stay in the UK without working. Most Importantly you need to staisfy the officer that you will be making short trips to the UK and will leave at the end of each visit.
Furthermore it is evident from your application that you have travelled to the UK to provide Child care for 5 months previously and that appears to be the main reasons for your ongoing visits to the UK. Where a Family member coming to look after a child in UK is premitted provided its for a short visit and does not amount to the relative being employed as a child minder.
I am not satisfied that this is the case."

Based on other members' experiences, as posted in forum, a 6-month stay is (in HO terms) not a 'visit' but is 'residence'.Most Importantly you need to satisfy the officer that you will be making short trips to the UK and will leave at the end of each visit.
