Redundancy - Tier 2

Hi Everyone,

I have recently been made redundant (4th of Feb, 2016) as a result of the oil and gas business climate. I work as a safety engineer and I have been actively searching for work which at this time of the year is hard to even secure an interview. Consultation has been completed and still can't find work in other units within the business. I have been on the Tier 2 visa for 2years and 4months. Please can you advice what other categories I could apply or options I can exploit to extend my stay. Please kindly advice.

Get married to a Brit/EU citizen (bit drastic), student visa (expensive) or keep plugging away for a T2.

@Wanderer. Thanks for you reply. Much appreciated. However, I am married and my Mrs is dependent on me. I guess that closes the options of marrying a Brit/EU citizen. Please what are my chances of applying under the compassion rules for right to family life. My sister and brother are both Brits. I hope my questions don't sound ridiculous but I am thinking how I can work things out here. I am intensifying my search for a job still, but nothing has come through yet, not even an interview..

No chance at all, especially as you have your own independent family unit, so no 'right to family life' with another married couple (sibling).

Similar case has happened to one of my friend and she is looking for umbrella company to get another sponsorship. Try visiting citizenadvice. I wanted to know if we have visa for another year but lost job in between on Tier 2 G , how long we can stay in UK.

Working for or through an umbrella company on a Tier 2 General visa is not permitted, it is illegal. Please do not give incorrect advice or suggestions.

CAB will not likely have a full understanding of the Tier 2 G processes and technicalities etc.

If you receive a curtailment letter giving you 60 days, that is how long you can stay. Once you are no longer working for your sponsor, they will inform HO of this fact.

Thanks "kritimodi" for the reply. Much appreciated. For the sake of clarity, when you say 60days, does that mean 60 working days or simply 60 days including weekends. There are 20 working days in a month so if it is 60 working days, that is about 3months right?

It is NOT 60 'working days'. It is 60 days total, including weekends.
