Schengen for ILR holders

Post by dexterous_1 » Thu Mar 17, 2016 10:25 am

Hi All,

I just got my ILR application done at the Croydon center yesterday. :D ..happy days ..!!

I need to go to Budapest for a business visit ..so I am wondering whether I need schengen visa to travel to Europe now.

From the below link :

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/ ... 32010R0265

""
A third-country national holding a long-stay visa issued by a Member State should therefore be allowed to travel to other Member States for three months in any six-month period, under the same conditions as the holder of a residence permit. This Regulation does not affect the rules regarding the conditions for issuing long-stay visas.
""

Can some experienced boarder confirm that this means I dont need visa to go on a short trip in EU.

Many thanks in advance for your help and guidance :

You need a Schengen visa as per your nationality.

You don't hold a 'residence permit' in the context of the piece you quoted. UK ILR is specific to the UK and does not confer any free movement rights or visa free entry to the Schengen zone. UK is not part of the Schengen agreement.

There are only two countries I am aware of that allow travel with ILR, Poland being the one but not sure of the other but do not think it is Hungary.
