Tier 2 General Dependant renewal - How early can I renew

Dear all - I am due to extend my Tier 2 general dependant visa (6th June 2016), originally granted 3 years ago on 6th June 2013.

My question is how early can I apply for extension, I had heard this can be done 3 months in advance - is this still valid?

If you apply to early, you will end up with a shortfall for ILR if only granted a PBS dep extension for 2 years.

Any particular reason why you want to apply early and not 'within 28 days of expiry'?

I am planning to go abroad towards end of May for a family wedding – hence wanted to have things sorted before then

I believe the next extension I will get would be for 3 years and within 2 years time I will be able to apply for my ILR? So i will be able to apply for it when its due ...

So apply before you travel then and if you get a visa for 3 years, apply for ILR when you qualify.
